Context
Philip Morris International (PMI) is one of the world’s biggest tobacco companies, with a global workforce of over 69,000.
They wanted to simplify managing their IQOS e-cigarettes without their users having to install new apps.
I worked with them as part of a team of 2 other Wunderdog developers and one external project manager/Scrum Master.
Solution
We developed a proof-of-concept Progressive Web App (PWA) for setting up and configuring IQOS e-cigarettes via mobile web browsers.
I developed the frontend for the PWA, implementing designs, interaction, and UI elements.
I proceeded to build both the frontend and the backend for browser push notifications, including an iOS alternative via web sockets.
The prototype was successfully demoed and delivered to PMI with very positive feedback. Thanks to our work, PMI became a returning client for Wunderdog.
Reflections
This was my first time working on a PWA and implementing browser notifications, both of which I learned on the job.
I first joined this project as a freelancer, and I was especially happy that I proved myself as a developer so that I was offered a full-time position at Wunderdog.
