HERE: Reusable Demo Library & EV Routing Demo

WunderdogBerlin, Germany (Hybrid)

Led the frontend for HERE API demos, delivering reusable components as a documented npm package

Context

HERE Technologies is one of the world’s leading platforms for location-based data.

The company wanted to create visual demos to showcase their APIs. Sadly, the previous demos were all ad-hoc and couldn’t be reused. At the same time, they needed a demo for electric vehicle routing and a way to showcase the web components design system that they developed.

I worked as a lead developer together with another Wunderdog developer and a delivery manager.

Solution

I architected and built a reusable Svelte component library for creating HERE demos using the HERE design system and APIs.

Using these components, we built a demo for long-distance electric vehicle routing. We delivered the library as a private npm package with detailed documentation and CI/CD workflows for deployment.

The electric vehicle demo helped HERE to gain new customers. They also used our library as a base to develop further demos, giving us feedback that they could easily understand the code.

Reflections

During the project I improved my management skills while working with the developer and customer. I’m particularly proud of increasing my abilities in task management, group communication, and expectation management.

Even though we did not do full Scrum, I’m also happy we used certain aspects of the framework such as sprints, retros, and client reviews to improve our workflow.
