Context
Wunderdog took part in Grand One, a design awards event held in Helsinki, Finland.
To gain more visibility for Wunderdog, two designers in the company wanted to create an interactive art installation.
We formed a team of volunteer developers from the company, where I participated as lead frontend developer.
Solution
We created an interactive art installation that runs in the browser: The Bubble Figure.
The app recognized a person via the webcam and made them appear as a colorful bubble figure. They could then interact with shapes that fell from above, for example, by hitting them - all in the visual language that Wunderdog created for Grandone.
I also facilitated meetings, managed tickets, and assisted the designers with suggestions and feedback.
We finished the project in time for the design competition, and it was set up as an interactive exhibit gaining plenty of curiosity and praise.
Later on, we cleaned up the code, converted it to TypeScript, and released it as an open source project.
Reflections
Thanks to the project I got out of my comfort zone and learned about creating 3D graphics and physics in the browser, as well as using trained AI models for pose detection.
This was one of the most fun projects I have done in my career.
