Savvy: Visualizing Identity Security Risks

WunderdogBerlin, Germany (Hybrid)

Built a security risk visualization flowchart (TypeScript, React) for Savvy, resulting in new clients for the startup

Context

Savvy is a startup that provides a product for SaaS identity security in organizations.

They wanted to visualize security risks in an innovative way using dynamically generated flow charts. Unfortunately, their team was overloaded with other tasks. This is where I came in.

Solution

I developed a new npm package in their monorepo with React and TypeScript. This package parsed data from their backend API, turned it into flow chart components via React Flow, and created a layout via ELKJS.

I learned both React Flow and ELKJS on the job, and found solutions for how to use ELKJS to create complex layouts automatically. To keep consistent with the existing UI, the package utilized the repo’s Material UI (MUI) theme and components as well as internationalization.

I initiated weekly reviews with the client, added documentation and visual regression testing with Storybook, and provided UX feedback.

Reflections

This project required a lot of initiative, self-management, and agility. At first there were just initial sketches, no written tickets/requirements, and no data schema. I used the information I had to write tickets, make up the data, and start development right away.
